La Vague - The Wave
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Mid May
Description
Investing an urban area, the musicians make light of the listening skills of the members of the audience in a bid to make them feel new sensations and to hit them with a long sound wave comprising several successive baths. While the listeners stroll down the street, flutes, strings, clarinets, trumpets, and other instruments invite them to embrace the immersion. Meanwhile, a mobile broadcasting device (Electromobile) moves along the line of musicians and uses electronic sounds to create a surging sound wave.
Performers
Imagine 160 musicians of all ages and levels of instrumental practice who meet for an acoustic deambulatory experience in the street. Through his project The Wave, French composer Eryck Abecassis traces a musical journey combining installation, street performance, and contemporary music. Convinced that public space is the ideal laboratory for testing new forms of representation, Les EIM and Eryck Abecassis joined forces to design The Wave in Montréal, adopting an itinerary designed in situ for the Esplanade de la Place des Arts, and creating two new sections: the ukuleles and the laptops.
